BOM report highlights importance of power security

Australia is no stranger to adverse weather conditions. Throughout the country, farmers, businesses and homeowners have to deal with searing summer temperatures, bushfires and drought on a regular basis.

This isn't to mention what happens in colder parts of the country during winter. According to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), Tasmania can see snow flurries, with the substance even reaching sea level in the coldest parts of the year.

Another record year

Recently, the BOM announced that 2015 was the fifth-warmest year on record for Australia, with a mean temperature of 0.83 degrees Celsius above the 1961-1990 average. Interestingly, there was also a significant cold outbreak over southeastern Australia, powerful bushfires in SA, VIC and WA, and seven tropical cyclones throughout the year.

No matter the season, poor weather conditions mean issues for the electricity grid. Take, for example, how weather affects a power line. Strong winds can push branches onto the lines and fires can damage equipment.

In turn, this can knock out power for a business, leaving the organisation to effectively grind to a stand-still while utility companies work to restore lines. As history has shown, this can take some time, especially following cyclones, storms and fires. It's important to consider what could happen while the power is out.

Businesses could find it all but impossible to get in touch with other offices or branches, fail to connect to staff out on the road, and struggle to work without lighting or operational equipment.

There is an answer. Now, it's time to start thinking about proper power security solutions.

Choosing the Optimal solution

When using Optimal Group solutions for power security, businesses take advantage of Capstone Secure Power, an extremely reliable and affordable UPS that's powered by a microturbine. Businesses can opt for either UPSource or Hybrid UPS, both of which are extremely efficient options.

Once one of these systems is in place, they can reduce the risks associated with power failure. What's more, they can also generate power at a cheaper rate than the grid.

Power security isn't something that's difficult to put into practice. With the right solution, any organisation can have a back-up plan in the event a storm or fire knocks out a transformer or power line. Reach out to Optimal Group today to learn more about Capstone Secure Power.
